Here is my latest update on the two poetry events I am hosting this year at the Eugene Public Library...
First, here is a formal announcement of the two events on the Mid-Valley Willamette Writers web page... http://mvww.wordpress.com/2012/02/18/call-for-eugene-poets-to-participate-in-local-poetry-events/ _______________________________________ Here is my latest information on the events... Hello Eugene Poets, My name is Steven and I am a local Eugene Poet. The Eugene Public Library, with the help of Groundwaters Magazine and the Mid-Valley chapter of Willamette Writers, is celebrating poetry in Eugene with two wonderful poetry events this year: One for the summer reading series at the Eugene Public Library and one for the Eugene Birthday Celebration in September, leading up to Eugene's 150th Birthday, which is being acknowledged on October 17th, 2012. We are seeking local Eugene poets to be involved in these two events. All of the events are open to the general public. The first event, The Summer Reading Series, will take place on two consecutive Saturdays, July 14th & 21st, 2012, from 1-5 P.M. The first Saturday will be a poetry workshop and the second Saturday will be an open reading and showcase of local poets. The library has said that we can probably expect about 30 people for the workshop. We have put together a panel to run the workshop and we are currently seeking poets who would like to be featured readers on the showcase/reading day. For the Eugene 150th Birthday Celebration event, we have one day, 3 hours. The date is Saturday, September 29th from 2-5 P.M. This will be an open reading of poetry with a theme of Eugene (like its history, culture, politics, nature, etc.), as well as a showcase of local poets. We are also considering a limited edition chapbook of Eugene themed poetry, to be given to the groups involved and the library, as well as to the poets whose work appears in the chapbook. The library has also suggested that participating poets could add their own books to the library collection. We are working on some other surprises that should add to the fun. I am sure there are plenty of local poets who would love an opportunity to read their work and maybe have it published and available in the library. If you would like to participate in any of these events, please contact us as soon as possible. For all inquiries, see the contact information below. Submissions: If you have poetry with a Eugene theme that you would like to submit for consideration in the chapbook or to read at the 150th birthday event, please submit it to the email or mailing address below. All poetry remains the property of the individual poets. We have not yet set a submission deadline, so right now you have plenty of time. Warmest regards, Steven C. Schreiner (pen name: C.
